Adding missing vines to the tree: multilocus phylogeny of New World vine snakes (Serpentes: Colubridae: Oxybelis), with description of a new species

چکیده

Neotropical vine snakes (Oxybelis) have a wide distribution range from southern United States to southeastern Brazil. Notably, the widespread brown snake O. aeneus was recently split into eight species, but major geographical areas such as South American Pacific lowlands remained unsampled. In this paper, we present largest molecular phylogeny of Oxybelis date using six mitochondrial and nuclear genes 10 11 currently recognised species Oxybelis. Our analyses include first samples west Andes, which describe new based on morphological evidence. The is morphologically most similar acuminatus, aeneus, inkaterra. Although genetically distinctive divergent its congeners, phylogenetic placement received low support. results also suggest that sample Escudo de Veraguas Island in Panama represents an undescribed Finally, clarify position sensu stricto.https:urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:CC4E3741-D9DF-4F6C-8D0F-9BD20CB124E5

Oxybelis wilsoni, a new species of vine snake from Isla de Roatán, Honduras (Serpentes: Colubridae).

A new species of Oxybelis is described from Isla de Roatán, Honduras. It differs from all species of Oxybelis in its tan to golden yellow coloration, in having a higher number of subcaudals as well as in other details of color and scutellation. The new species is closely related to O. fulgidus and is thought to be derived from a fulgidus-like ancestor (i.e., is the sister species to fulgidus) t...

A taxonomic revision of the Asian keelback snakes, genus Amphiesma (Serpentes: Colubridae: Natricinae), with description of a new species.

The Asian keelback snakes (genus Amphiesma) are a widely distributed group of Old World natricines, inhabiting a variety of niches and exhibiting significant morphological variation. Recent molecular phylogenies suggest that this genus is not monophyletic, and that additional cryptic diversity is also likely present. We conducted a phylogenetic analysis of the group based on 3162 bp of one mito...

Taxonomic revision of Chironius flavolineatus (Jan, 1863) with description of a new species (Serpentes: Colubridae).

We conducted a taxonomic review of Chironius flavolineatus on the basis of continuous and discrete morphological characters. We recognize a new species which is distinguished from all currently recognized congeners by the following unique combination of characters: first third of body black or dark gray; vertebral stripe yellowish or creamish white distinct from dorsals of nape and extending th...

Multilocus species delimitation in the Crotalus triseriatus species group (Serpentes: Viperidae: Crotalinae), with the description of two new species.

Members of the Crotalus triseriatus species group of montane rattlesnakes are widely distributed across the highlands of Mexico and southwestern USA. Although five species are currently recognized within the group, species limits remain to be tested. Genetic studies suggest that species may be paraphyletic and that at least one cryptic species may be present. We generate 3,346 base pairs of DNA...

A Species-Level Phylogeny of Extant Snakes with Description of a New Colubrid Subfamily and Genus

BACKGROUND With over 3,500 species encompassing a diverse range of morphologies and ecologies, snakes make up 36% of squamate diversity. Despite several attempts at estimating higher-level snake relationships and numerous assessments of generic- or species-level phylogenies, a large-scale species-level phylogeny solely focusing on snakes has not been completed. Here, we provide the largest-yet ...
